Unabridged marriage certificates are proof that two people have been joined in matrimony and that the marriage ceremony is legally binding. Some authorities consider a marriage to be an official record that denotes that both individuals have participated in a partnership and this includes jurisdictions where wedding licences do not exist. Other places see an unabridged marriage certificate as providing a double function-first and foremost making sure that your nuptials are permissible and also documenting that this marriage has been witnessed by eligible spectators. Please Note: All marriages that occured between the years 2002 and 2013 require the DHA-30 or BI-30 (Marriage Register) in addition to the BI-130 (Application Form).

The BI-30 is the form that you were issued by the registrar or priest. It consists of your signatures along with the signatures of the priest/registrar and the witnesses who attended the wedding. Without a DHA-30 we will unfortunately not be able to procure the document at all. In order for the unabridged marriage certificate process to run as smoothly as possible it is imperative that the BI-30/DHA-30 copies are clearly legible. The BI-27 is not  acceptable or sufficient.

Any South African resident that travels, is employed in or lives in another country needs authentic Police Clearance Certificates when they are asked for residence permission, securing any sort of occupation or if they are summoned to attend a court hearing. You have to apply for a Police Clearance Certificate on your own as it is your personal responsibility to ensure that everything is legal and above board-it is a matter that only the individual can attend to rather than asking for advice from the higher-ups.

If you want to gain access into another country then a passport is essential. The definition of a passport is that it is an official, legal document that holds all of your personal information including your nationality and identity, and is vital if you are travelling abroad. People will need to identify you if you are going to international destinations and this is why a passport comprises of your date of birth, gender and place of birth. Normally, citizenship and nationality are compatible, and this rarely changes. It is not guaranteed that a passport solely ensures that the holder is allowed to enter another place of their own free will, nor does it make certain that they are entitled to any other privileges or rights, such as consular protection. Yet what a passport does do is make sure that the owner can return to the location that issued the passport in the first place. International unions form the basic fundamentals of consular fortifications and the right to return to a destination arises from the rules and regulations of the issuing nation. If someone is in a foreign land then a passport does not automatically denote the place of residence or the right to stay in a certain region, even if the passport is indeed issued in this area.

Applying from abroad?

Before we proceed, we require your ID Number to do a "HANIS" Check (Home Affairs National Information System). This is to verify that your fingerprints are registered on the new system.

If you are not registered we need to address the application differently, But, if you are, then:

We require the following:

• 2 photos, NO smiling, no frowning, no shadows & must be colour.
• A copy of your ID and copy of a current/old passport (no need to be certified).
• Fill in section A, and sign where they ask for applicant to at the bottom of the page on the left hand side.
• Sign SMALL and in the middle of the block,
• Do not touch or go near the lines.
• New machines are print sensitive.
• Also fill in Section D and E. (Page 2). At the postal address put your parents’ name or someone that lives close to you and fill out all their details cohesively.
